I don't know what happened. I've had a slight ticking going on for the last few months but it sounded more like an exhaust manifold leak than lifter noise. Yesterday morning it became slightly more noticable and by the time I was a couple of miles away from home it was knocking like a SOB. One of the worst sounds I think I've ever heard. My oil level and pressure were fine and showed no other forewarning symptoms. It just went all at once. I'm pretty sure the rod didn't fly off or break apart. The engine was still running fine other than the knocking when I shut it down for the last time. My best guess is maybe the auto tensioner died, releasing the tension on the T-Belt and the cam sprockets skipped some teeth. So what is the likelyhood that I can save this engine from replacement or a total rebuild. Any help would be great. Man, this is really depressing. I never thought this would happen to me.
